Accutron 214 ( Watches and Clocks)

Accutron 214s
The Accutron 214 was a major milestone in precision timekeeping.  Although quartz crystal timekeepers had been around since the 1930s, it was the Accutron which announced that the days of the mechanical watch were numbered.  In the place of the mechanical oscillator (the balance and spring in the mechanical watch), the Accutron makes use of an electrically driven tuning fork to which a lever is attached.  This lever pushes a very small, 300 tooth wheel, which ultimately drives the hands.  The coils of the electro-magnetic resonator and the tuning fork can easily be seen in the picture of the Spaceview.

I have a full stock of parts for the 214s (hands, tuning  forks, index wheels, coils, case parts).  I adhere strictly to the factory specified procedures for overhauling these timepieces.  In addition, I rephase each watch so that it will function properly using a 1.5V battery in place of the original (and now illegal) 1.35V mercury battery used originally.  I have found very few 214s which cannot be repahsed.

The service charge for an Accutron 214 is:    $145 plus parts.
