The choices of diamond wheels for watchmakers,
clockmakers and micro-machinists has been very limited and
frustrating. Either you had to buy a large "industrial"
wheel and adapt it to your purpose, or you had to settle for one of
those kits that includes a cast iron wheel and diamond paste.
These diamond wheels are made BY Historic
Timekeepers, Inc. specifically for those of us who need a smaller wheel
that truly does cut. Watchmakers who use carbide gravers for hand
turning have struggled trying to keep their gravers in condition using
the diamond paste system. Many have rejected carbide gravers
BECAUSE that system is not very good.
These wheels are designed not only for sharpening
carbide, they are intended to be used for grinding and finishing steel
parts and sapphire and ruby jewels. The edges of the faceplate are
back tapered to allow parts to be ground right at the edge of the
wheel. Since these wheels do not use a resin bonded diamond
structure, they can be safely used on steel.
The 1.5 inch faceplate and arbor are one piece
(machined out of a single piece of brass) for strength and
concentricity. The arbor is .20 inches and will fit a number 50
watchmaker' lathe collet. This means that not only can these be
used in the headstock, they can be used in the the watchmaker's milling
attachment for grinding operations.
There
are two "grits" available. The 600 grit is useful for
initial shaping and heavy grinding. The 1200 grit is recommended
for final sharpening and grinding of jewel material.
The price of each wheel is $35 which includes
shipping within the United States.
These prices include postage in the continental US.
